Position Overview

The organization is seeking a Senior CMT Project Manager to lead and grow its Construction Materials Testing operations in the Knoxville and East Tennessee market. This is a high‑visibility leadership role combining client engagement, business development, technical oversight, and operational management.

The position is designed for a seasoned CMT professional who enjoys building relationships, leading teams, and driving business growth-not just managing projects, but shaping the future of the operation across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Client Leadership & Business Development

  • Serve as the primary client‑facing leader for CMT services in East Tennessee
  • Develop and strengthen relationships with developers, contractors, and project stakeholders
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities through relationship‑based selling
  • Attend industry, networking, and community events to expand market presence
  • Walk active project sites with clients and construction teams
  • Drive revenue growth and position the firm as a trusted CMT partner

CMT Program Leadership & Technical Oversight

  • Lead and manage a growing Construction Materials Testing team
  • OverseeCMT services including:
    • Soil and foundation evaluations
    • Earthwork inspection and monitoring
    • Concrete testing and mix design review
    • Laboratory coordination and reporting
    • Construction quality control documentation
  • Provide technical oversight, QA/QC review, and troubleshooting during active projects
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, codes, and industry standards

Strategy, Growth, and Operations

  • Help shape the firm's long‑term strategy across East Tennessee
  • Identify opportunities to expand service lines and enter new markets
  • Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality
  • Support hiring, mentoring, and development of technical and field staff
  • Influence operational standards, company culture, and regional growth initiatives

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience managing Construction Materials Testing (CMT) projects
  • Strong technical background in soil, concrete, earthwork, and CMT QA/QC
  • Proven track record of building client relationships and winning work
  • Leadership experience managing technicians, engineers, and lab personnel
  • Excellent communication, coordination, and client‑facing skills
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with comfort in a fast‑growth, low‑bureaucracy environment
  • Tennessee licensure and/or relevant certifications (preferred or ability to obtain)
