Senior Plumbing Designer - HYBRID
The Senior Plumbing Designer is responsible for delivering high-quality plumbing design services for a variety of projects, ranging from small-scale efforts to complex, multi-disciplinary developments. This role involves a strong focus on code compliance, constructability, and coordination with other trades, while also supporting junior staff and contributing to team success through technical leadership and design expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
Leads the design and documentation of plumbing systems
Develops design concepts and strategies with input from project engineers and architects
Prepares calculations, equipment selections, and plumbing layouts using industry-standard software
Ensures all plumbing designs comply with local codes, standards, and client specifications
Oversees and reviews plumbing drawings for accuracy, consistency, and completeness
Coordinates plumbing systems with architectural, structural, HVAC, and electrical disciplines
Attends design meetings with internal teams and external stakeholders to provide technical input
Communicates with code officials, utility providers, and permitting agencies as needed
Assists in the development of discipline-specific budgets and monitors resource usage against project goals
Participates in project scheduling and helps ensure plumbing deliverables are met on time
Reviews shop drawings and submittals during the construction phase
Provides responses to contractor RFIs and supports the resolution of field-related design issues
Conducts site visits to observe construction progress and verify compliance with design intent
Maintains accurate documentation of design decisions and coordination efforts
Mentors and supports junior designers and engineering interns through technical guidance and reviews
Contributes to the development of internal design standards and best practices
Keeps up with industry developments, technologies, and code updates through continuous learning
May support project management with discipline-specific tasks or client coordination as needed
Qualifications:
Associate's or bachelor's degree in engineering, drafting, or a related field
Minimum of 7 years of plumbing design experience in a consulting or engineering environment
Strong knowledge of plumbing codes, systems, and construction methods
Proficiency in Revit and AutoCAD required
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Experience with plumbing design software and calculation tools
Strong organizational, communication, and coordination skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
