Jacksonville, Tampa, or Orlando: Senior Traffic Engineer, PE

I'm working with one of the most well-respected traffic teams in Florida, supporting FDOT's Target Zero program and broader traffic safety initiatives. This team is looking to add a Senior Traffic Engineer and Leader who will work hands‑on with FDOT on high‑impact safety and operations efforts. This role offers:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Transportation Engineering, or a related field
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in traffic engineering and/or traffic planning
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) license is highly preferred
  • Road Safety Professional (RSP) is a plus
  • Experience delivering traffic and transportation projects for private sector clients, such as FDOT, and other counties and municipalities
  • Strong understanding of traffic and transportation engineering principles and best practices
  • Experience in planning, coordinating, and executing multiple projects concurrently
  • Clear understanding of FDOT standards and expectations in different Districts, including D2, D5, and D7
  • Drive and motivation to be involved in business development efforts and client-facing

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with Synchro
  • Experience with HCS, SIDRA, VISSIM, ArcGIS, CUBE, and/or TransCAD preferred
  • Working knowledge of HCM, MUTCD, AASHTO, and state DOT standards, manuals, and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Plan, manage, and execute traffic and transportation studies, including:
    • Traffic impact analyses
    • Traffic forecasting studies
    • Intersection and corridor operational studies
    • Safety and access management analyses
    • Signal timing, parking, and roundabout feasibility studies
  • Prepare technical reports, plans, and specifications for transportation projects
  • Develop, review, and revise engineering calculations and drawings
  • Review plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents
  • Prepare presentation and communication materials for clients, agencies, and public stakeholders
  • Coordinate with clients, agencies, contractors, and internal project teams
  • Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff
  • Support project scope development, schedules, budgets, and overall project management efforts
