About the Role
The Solar Designer (Repair & Remediation Projects) evaluates, redesigns, and implements engineering solutions for existing solar systems requiring repairs, performance improvements, or compliance updates. This role blends engineering design, field troubleshooting, and operations support to enhance the reliability and long‑term performance of solar installations.
Key Responsibilities
1. System Assessment & Troubleshooting
- Conduct technical reviews and site assessments of under performing systems.
- Diagnose electrical, mechanical, and design-related issues.
- Review as-built documentation and monitoring data to identify root causes.
- Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and propose corrective actions.
2. Repair & Remediation Design
- Develop repair/redesign plans for damaged or non-compliant installations.
- Update CAD drawings, one-lines, and schematics.
- Reconfigure arrays or system layouts to improve performance and ensure compliance.
- Specify replacement components that meet current standards.
- Ensure designs are cost-effective and practical for field implementation.
3. Compliance & Standards
- Ensure designs meet NEC, IEEE, IEC, UL, and local AHJ requirements.
- Update legacy systems to meet new codes and utility rules.
- Support inspections and resolve compliance issues.
4. Collaboration & Coordination
- Work with operations teams and contractors during implementation.
- Coordinate with procurement for materials.
- Support project managers with planning, schedules, and cost estimates.
- Provide technical insight on system deficiencies and required fixes.
5. Documentation & Reporting
- Produce updated layouts, wiring diagrams, and component specifications.
- Write technical reports outlining issues, solutions, and expected results.
- Maintain accurate records of system changes.
6. Performance Optimization
- Review monitoring data to verify post-repair performance improvements.
- Recommend upgrades to improve production efficiency.
- Support energy modeling (PVSyst, HelioScope) to validate expected gains.
Requirements
- Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of PV system design, engineering, or remediation experience.
- Strong troubleshooting and redesign experience.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, HelioScope, PVSyst, or similar tools.
- Strong understanding of PV electrical design and system components.
- Familiarity with monitoring platforms and SCADA systems.
- Understanding of structural/mechanical components of PV systems.
