About the Role

An established engineering consultancy is seeking a skilled TAB Specialist to perform, manage, and deliver Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing (TAB) services. This role requires strong technical expertise in commercial balancing, proficiency with standard TAB equipment, and the ability to generate accurate and organized reports. Successful candidates will demonstrate strong communication, problem‑solving, computer skills, and sound decision‑making abilities.


Key Responsibilities

  • Perform air and water Testing, Adjusting, and Balancing services across a variety of commercial HVAC systems, including:
    • Air handling systems
    • Terminal units (VAV, FPB, DOAS, etc.)
    • Fan coil units
    • Computer room air conditioning units
    • Supply and exhaust fans
    • Chillers
    • Boilers
    • Pumps
  • Arrive on-site punctually with all required TAB equipment
  • Prepare well-organized, accurate TAB reports in accordance with industry standards and internal procedures
  • Develop pre-TAB documentation and drawings for use during balancing and in final reporting
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose issues related to air and water system performance
  • Communicate job progress, deadlines, and issues to senior TAB staff and project leads
  • Coordinate with construction managers and other field personnel as needed
  • Assist and mentor other TAB technicians to support field operations
  • Participate actively in training and skill development initiatives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a trained TAB technician
  • Professional TAB certification (e.g., NEBB, TABB, AABC, NBC) - preferred but not required
  • NEBB certification (TAB CT, TAB CP) - preferred but not required
  • Understanding of HVAC systems
  • Knowledge of production workflows and ability to support project deliverables
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
  • Ability to troubleshoot balancing-related issues
  • Current OSHA certification
  • Valid driver's license
  • Affiliation with a professional TAB organization (e.g., NEBB, AABC, TABB, NBC)

Working Conditions

This role requires regular visits to active construction sites and involves moderate to vigorous physical activity, including:

  • Frequent walking, standing, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders or scaffolding
  • Lifting or carrying test equipment weighing 20-50 lbs
  • Operating in indoor and outdoor environments with temperature extremes
  • Exposure to loud noise levels
  • Periodic travel between sites, sometimes requiring multi-hour trips
  • Occasional work outside standard business hours
