Associate Geotechnical Engineer (Senior Level, PE)
A well-established, employee-owned geotechnical and geosciences consulting firm is seeking an Associate-level Senior Geotechnical Engineer (PE) to step into a key leadership role within its buildings and development practice.
This position is ideal for an experienced geotechnical professional who enjoys leading teams, working closely with clients, and helping shape the next phase of a successful practice- with clear pathways to ownership and expanded influence across the firm.
The Opportunity
You will join the firm with an existing portfolio of well-established clients and take responsibility for managing and growing those relationships. While business development experience is welcomed, this role is not starting from zero-you'll be supported by a strong brand, internal marketing resources, and a collaborative national team.
Over time, you'll play a growing role in new business development, with the expectation that you become more actively involved within the first 1-2 years, building on existing client trust and market presence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of ~5-6 geotechnical engineers, adjusting team size based on project demands
- Serve as Project Manager / Technical Lead on geotechnical projects tied to building and development work
- Deliver geotechnical engineering solutions for commercial, mixed-use, and residential buildings
- Contribute to and oversee subsurface investigations, foundation design, geotechnical reports, and construction support
- Act as a trusted advisor to developers, architects, structural engineers, and owners
- Maintain and strengthen existing client relationships, ensuring repeat work and long-term partnerships
- Collaborate with leadership on strategy, operations, and staff development
- Support and gradually expand involvement in business development and pursuits
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 10+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Strong background in geotechnical design for buildings and development projects
- Experience supporting urban developments is a strong plus
- Proven ability to lead, mentor, and manage engineering teams
- Client-facing, relationship-oriented, and commercially aware
- Interested in long-term growth, leadership, and ownership
