A fast‑growing and well‑respected heavy civil contractor in the Denver metro area is seeking an experienced Estimator to support an expanding pipeline of earthwork and utility projects. Position Overview
The Estimator will play a key role in securing and setting up mid-sized civil projects, typically in the $1M-$5M range, with a focus on earthwork, excavation, and underground utilities. You'll collaborate closely with operations and field teams to ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and aligned with real-world construction execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for earthwork and utility projects
- Analyze plans, specifications, and bid documents
- Solicit, level, and evaluate subcontractor and supplier pricing
- Develop competitive bid strategies and pricing approaches
- Partner with project managers and superintendents to validate production assumptions
- Support value engineering and constructability reviews
- Maintain organized bid documentation and cost tracking
- Assist with handoff from estimating to operations post-award
Required Experience
- 5+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction
- Strong background in:
- Earthwork / excavation / grading
- Underground utilities (water, sewer, storm)
- Experience estimating projects in the $1M-$5M range preferred
- Solid understanding of construction means & methods and production rates
- Proficiency with estimating and takeoff software
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Detail‑oriented with strong analytical and communication skills
