Position Overview

They are seeking a Senior Geotechnical Engineer with specialized experience in dam engineering and safety to lead complex investigations, design efforts, and risk evaluations for embankment and concrete dams, levees, and flood control structures. This role offers the opportunity to work on high-impact projects involving seepage analysis, slope stability, liquefaction potential, and seismic hazard mitigation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead geotechnical investigations and design for new dam construction, dam rehabilitation, and safety evaluations.
  • Perform and oversee seepage, slope stability, and liquefaction analyses using advanced numerical modeling tools (e.g., GeoStudio, FLAC, PLAXIS).
  • Develop geotechnical design recommendations for foundations, embankments, cutoff walls, and drainage systems.
  • Conduct field programs including drilling oversight, in-situ testing, instrumentation planning, and construction observation.
  • Prepare and review technical reports, design documents, and risk assessments in accordance with FERC, USACE, and state dam safety regulations.
  • Collaborate with hydrologists, structural engineers, and geologists on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to internal technical development initiatives.
  • Support proposal development and client engagement for dam-related projects.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • PE license required; GE or D.GE certification preferred.
  • 10+ years of geotechnical experience with a strong focus on dam safety and design.
  • Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., GeoStudio Suite, FLAC, PLAXIS, gINT).
  • Familiarity with federal and state dam safety guidelines and risk-informed decision-making frameworks.
  • Excellent technical writing, communication, and project management skills.
