Position Overview

The firm is seeking an experienced Senior Transmission Line Engineer to strengthen their growing Power Delivery practice in Austin, TX. This role is ideal for a technically strong engineer who enjoys hands‑on design work, collaborating across disciplines, and contributing to complex, high‑impact infrastructure projects.

This is a fully on‑site position requiring daily presence in the Austin office to support design collaboration, team leadership, and mentorship.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Engineering & Design

  • Lead the engineering, modeling, and analysis of overhead transmission lines (69 kV-500 kV) using PLS‑CADD, PLS‑POLE, and PLS‑TOWER.
  • Develop structure loading, foundation recommendations, sag‑tension analysis, plan‑and‑profile drawings, and detailed design packages.
  • Review and refine routing, line design criteria, structural configurations, and material specifications.
  • Conduct engineering calculations in compliance with NESC code requirements and utility standards.

Project Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as technical lead for multi‑disciplinary transmission projects involving civil, electrical, and environmental interfaces.
  • Provide mentorship and oversight to junior engineers and designers.
  • Coordinate with project managers, CAD teams, survey groups, environmental specialists, and construction support teams.
  • Communicate with utility clients, EPC partners, and other external stakeholders.

Quality, Documentation & Delivery

  • Prepare technical reports, design criteria documents, calculations, specifications, and construction deliverables.
  • Review design work produced by others, providing QA/QC and technical guidance.
  • Participate in proposals, work plans, scope development, and schedule/budget support.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline.
  • EIT certification required.
  • Proficiency in PLS‑CADD and associated PLS engineering tools.
  • 4-10+ years of experience in overhead transmission line design.
  • Strong understanding of NESC, utility standards, and T‑Line design practices.
  • Ability to work on‑site in Austin, TX (no hybrid/remote option).

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) licensure (Texas or ability to obtain within 6-12 months).
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary consulting environment.
  • Familiarity with foundation design, geotechnical interfaces, and environmental/permitting coordination.
  • Experience leading design efforts or mentoring early‑career engineers.
