Water Resource PM - St Louis
Water Resources Project Manager
Location: St. Louis, Missouri
Salary: Up to $140,000+ (depending on experience)
My client is a well-established civil and water resources engineering firm that has been serving communities for over 60 years. With a team of approximately 25 people and three owners actively involved in the business, they offer the stability of an established company while maintaining the flexibility, visibility, and collaborative environment of a smaller firm.
They are seeking a Water Resources Project Manager who can lead projects independently while remaining hands-on technically. This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys managing clients and projects but doesn't want to move away from the engineering work that got them into the industry in the first place.
Why This Opportunity Stands Out
- 100% employer-paid medical, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their families (extremely rare in today's market)
- 3% retirement contribution regardless of employee participation
- Flexible working hours - as long as the work gets done and 40 hours are completed, management trusts employees to manage their schedules
- Hybrid flexibility available
- Potential part-time flexibility for the right individual
- Opportunity to work across the full project lifecycle rather than being siloed into a single discipline
- Strong reputation with a client base built largely on repeat business
- Direct exposure to leadership and decision-makers within the business
The Role
This position sits at the intersection of general civil engineering and water resources engineering. The successful candidate will manage projects, maintain client relationships, and deliver technical work across a diverse portfolio of municipal, transportation-related, and industrial infrastructure projects.
Unlike larger organizations where responsibilities are often divided among multiple departments, this role offers the chance to oversee projects from initial planning and design through construction support and client management.
Project Types
Projects focus heavily on managing and protecting water resources associated with rainfall, stormwater, flooding, and drainage systems, including:
- Stormwater management systems
- Detention and retention basins
- Flood mitigation and floodplain studies
- Hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
- Drainage infrastructure
- Culverts and bridge hydraulics
- Creek and stream restoration projects
- Riverbank stabilization and erosion control
- Water quality treatment facilities
- Dam, levee, and dike-related projects
- Municipal public works improvements
- Industrial infrastructure developments
The firm also supports a number of unique transportation-oriented projects, including:
- Greenway systems
- Multi-use trails
- Bike and pedestrian networks
- Retaining walls
- Bridge crossings
- Corridor improvement projects
Engineers with roadway, transportation, or land development experience who have strong drainage and water resources exposure are encouraged to apply.
Technical Responsibilities
- Project management and client coordination
- Hydrology and hydraulic analysis
- Stormwater management design
- Floodplain modeling
- Culvert and bridge sizing
- Drainage structure design
- Grading and site development plans
- Pipe and ditch design
- Erosion and sediment control
- Stream and creek stabilization
- Water quality treatment design
- Detention basin and bioretention design
- Construction support and plan review
What We're Looking For
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required
- Approximately 5-10+ years of relevant experience
- Ability to independently manage and deliver projects
- Strong technical background in water resources and civil engineering
- Experience working directly with municipal, public works, or infrastructure clients
- Ability to balance project management responsibilities with technical delivery
Compensation
- Entry-level engineers currently start around $80,000
- Senior-level professionals can earn $140,000+
- Competitive compensation package based on experience and qualifications
If you're looking for a role where you can continue doing meaningful technical engineering work while leading projects, working directly with clients, and having visibility across every stage of project delivery, this is an excellent opportunity within one of the St. Louis area's most respected water resources and civil engineering firms.
