As Associate Director of Mechanical Engineering, you'll play a pivotal leadership role within the Design Department, driving operational excellence, team development, and strategic growth. This position is ideal for a seasoned engineering leader who thrives at the intersection of people, process, and performance.


Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Design Oversight (Up to 50%)

  • Lead and contribute to schematic and conceptual mechanical designs for new programs and initiatives.
  • Perform and oversee advanced mechanical engineering calculations and design work.
  • Serve as Engineer of Record (EoR) on select projects, ensuring quality and compliance.
  • Conduct QA/QC peer reviews and mentor junior engineers to foster a culture of learning and technical rigor.
  • Guide the development of team standards and training programs.
  • Support drawing production and specification development using AutoCAD and Revit.

Organizational Strategy & Process Improvement (25%+)

  • Drive strategic planning and hiring for the mechanical team, aligning resources with project needs.
  • Collaborate with department leadership to shape and implement scalable policies and procedures.
  • Manage budgets, staffing plans, and partner relationships (onshore and offshore).
  • Champion continuous improvement initiatives and help build a high-performing, diverse team.
  • Develop onboarding and development playbooks that accelerate productivity and engagement.

Management & Cross-Functional Leadership (25%+)

  • Mentor and coach team members to support career growth and performance.
  • Lead strategic initiatives and cross-functional collaborations that enhance departmental impact.
  • Communicate organizational goals and ensure alignment across teams.
  • Monitor performance metrics, manage resource allocation, and ensure compliance with company policies.
  • Provide data-driven insights to senior leadership for informed decision-making.
  • Support hiring and onboarding efforts to reinforce company culture and values.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering leadership, ideally within mission-critical sectors.
  • Strong understanding of budgeting, resource planning, and operational strategy.
  • Skilled in AutoCAD, Revit, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead remote teams effectively.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, coach, and develop engineering talent.
  • Experience with data visualization and performance analysis tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and drive results in a fast-paced environment.

Additional Details

  • Travel: Approximately 15% to client sites, partner offices, or company events nationwide.
  • Physical Requirements: Primarily remote work with occasional movement of equipment up to 25 lbs.
