Early Career Instrumentation & Controls Water/wastewater Engineer
Overview
Join a project team delivering automation and control solutions for industrial facilities-including water/wastewater, manufacturing, energy, and other process environments. You'll support efforts from early planning through commissioning, working closely with senior engineers, designers, contractors, and client stakeholders.
What You'll Do
- Project support across phases: Contribute to planning, design, and construction/commissioning tasks for controls, instrumentation, telemetry, and supervisory systems (e.g., PLC/DCS, HMI, data historians).
- Client coordination: Participate in discussions with client reps and help translate preferences into drawings, specs, submittals, and other deliverables.
- Design contributions: Assist with producing and reviewing control narratives, I/O schedules, P&IDs, loop sheets, panel arrangements, and network/architecture diagrams for multi‑discipline projects.
- Field & testing exposure: Attend site walkdowns and contractor meetings; support FAT/SAT, startup, troubleshooting, and closeout activities under guidance from senior staff.
- Task, schedule, and budget tracking: Help keep assignments on track; contribute to scopes, estimates, slides, and proposal materials for upcoming pursuits.
Team Environment
You'll be part of a collaborative controls group serving municipal and industrial clients. Work ranges from small retrofits to large, multi‑facility programs. Expect mentorship, knowledge sharing, and opportunities to rotate across different project types as your skills grow.
Typical Services You'll Touch
Consulting and assessments; master planning; conceptual and detailed design; design‑build/EPC collaboration; construction phase services; programming/configuration; networking and basic cybersecurity practices; field testing; commissioning; on‑call support; and training materials.
Preferred Qualifications
- Clear written and verbal communication; comfortable working with cross‑functional teams.
- Foundational experience in automation/controls or instrumentation design (internships or 1-3 years).
- Exposure to industrial or utility settings (e.g., water/wastewater, manufacturing, energy, chemicals, life sciences).
- Familiarity with coordinating tasks, timelines, budgets, or supporting business development is a plus.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (EE, ME, CE, ChE, or similar) from an accredited program.
- Approximately 1-5 years of related experience (strong internship/co‑op experience considered).
