Electrical Engineering Manager- Power Generation
Position Summary
This role offers the opportunity to lead an electrical engineering team while serving as the senior electrical engineer on high‑impact projects. You will oversee the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems for projects ranging from modernization of existing facilities to construction of new power‑generation installations.
You will supervise a team of electrical engineers and provide technical leadership throughout all phases of the project lifecycle. Responsibilities include developing power distribution system designs, creating equipment specifications, and coordinating engineering activities to ensure compliance with project requirements, industry codes, and applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers supporting multiple projects.
- Develop electrical system designs, including medium‑ and low‑voltage power distribution.
- Prepare technical specifications for major electrical equipment and installation services.
- Support project managers to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and quality requirements.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary engineering activities to ensure alignment with project goals and operational needs.
- Prepare and review functional design drawings such as single‑line diagrams, schematics, cable block diagrams, and relay/metering designs.
- Perform and review engineering calculations, including protective relay settings, voltage drop analysis, auxiliary power studies, and arc‑flash analysis.
- Collaborate with vendors to produce bills of material, technical evaluations, and procurement documents.
- Produce clear, concise technical reports and design documentation.
- Conduct independent peer reviews of engineering work produced by others.
- Mentor and support the development of less‑experienced engineers.
- Participate in internal knowledge‑sharing initiatives and technical communities.
- Travel to client sites and vendor facilities for design reviews, field verification, and construction coordination.
- Work under a hybrid schedule requiring three days per week in the office at the designated location.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution; emphasis in power systems preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Experience managing electrical engineering teams.
- 15+ years of experience in electrical design for power‑generation or industrial facilities, focusing on detailed system design for new installations or upgrades.
- Proficiency in selecting electrical equipment, working with control philosophies, and preparing engineering calculations and specifications.
- Strong background in designing electrical distribution systems (medium and low voltage), communication systems, and equipment selection.
- Experience performing power system studies using ETAP and/or SKM.
- Solid technical knowledge of electrical power distribution equipment.
- Proven experience acting as a primary technical contact for clients.
- Demonstrated ability to review and approve engineering calculations and drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of instrumentation and controls engineering.
- Experience in project management or business development.
- Field construction or system startup experience.
