Salary Range: $85,000-$120,000
Overview
An established environmental consulting firm is seeking an experienced Environmental Project Manager to lead site investigation, remediation, and regulatory closure projects. This role involves managing technically complex projects, mentoring junior staff, and working directly with regulators and clients to drive sites to closure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage environmental projects including site characterization, remedial design, and preparation of technical reports and related documentation.
- Lead project teams through investigation, risk assessment, and remediation of soil, groundwater, and sediment sites with moderate to complex regulatory and technical challenges.
- Navigate state regulatory frameworks and interact directly with regulatory agencies to advance projects toward closure.
- Develop, evaluate, and recommend remedial alternatives and support clients in negotiating cost-effective closure strategies with regulators.
- Proactively drive projects forward by leveraging internal field teams and senior technical resources.
- Plan, coordinate, and oversee project scope, schedule, and budget; maintain accountability for project performance.
- Provide direct people leadership to 2-3 staff members, focusing on professional development, mentorship, and career growth beyond individual project assignments.
Education & Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Geology, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related scientific discipline required.
- Minimum of 5 years of environmental consulting experience.
- Professional licensure or certifications (or willingness to obtain) in Connecticut and/or Massachusetts environmental programs is a plus.
- Professional Geologist (PG) license is a plus.
- 40-hour HAZWOPER certification required (training may be provided for the right candidate).
- OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction Safety certification is a plus.
Desired Experience
- Execution and management of environmental site assessment and remediation projects.
- Technical oversight and leadership of multidisciplinary project teams.
- Experience with environmental due diligence projects (ASTM Phase I/II) is a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to manage both technical deliverables and personnel development.
Core Skills & Competencies
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced consulting environment.
- Strong initiative with the ability to work independently and drive results.
- Working knowledge of Connecticut and/or Massachusetts environmental regulations (e.g., RSRs and/or MCP).
- Excellent organizational, communication, and technical writing skills with strong attention to detail.
- Proven ability to mentor, delegate, and support junior staff development.
- Ability to define and manage project scope, schedule, and budget, and hold teams accountable for performance.
Additional Requirements
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future sponsorship.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Ability to pass a background check, pre-employment drug screening (as permitted by law), and baseline physical for safety-sensitive roles.
