Position Summary
The Estimator will play a critical role in securing new business by preparing detailed cost estimates and proposals for commercial glazing and facade projects. This individual will review drawings and specifications, perform quantity take-offs, solicit vendor pricing, and develop competitive bids for custom curtain wall, storefront, architectural glass, and related building envelope systems.
The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of glazing systems and a thorough understanding of commercial construction estimating practices.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating & Preconstruction
- Prepare detailed estimates for commercial glazing, curtain wall, storefront, window wall, and specialty facade projects.
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, addenda, and bid documents.
- Perform accurate quantity take-offs and material calculations.
- Develop conceptual, budgetary, and hard bid estimates.
- Analyze project scope and identify potential risks, exclusions, and value engineering opportunities.
Vendor & Subcontractor Coordination
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from suppliers, manufacturers, and subcontractors.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with vendors and industry partners.
- Ensure all quotations align with project specifications and scope requirements.
- Evaluate competing supplier proposals to maximize project profitability.
Proposal Development
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages and client proposals.
- Develop scope letters, exclusions, clarifications, and qualifications.
- Coordinate bid submissions and ensure deadlines are met.
- Participate in bid reviews and turnover meetings with operations teams.
Technical Review
- Interpret architectural, structural, and facade drawings.
- Understand system requirements for:
- Unitized Curtain Wall
- Stick-Built Curtain Wall
- Storefront Systems
- Architectural Glass
- Entrances & Doors
- Windows
- Metal Panel Systems
- Identify potential design conflicts and constructability concerns.
Business Development Support
- Assist with budgeting and pricing for negotiated projects.
- Support client meetings and preconstruction discussions when required.
- Track bid opportunities and maintain estimating records.
- Collaborate with project management and leadership teams to improve bid performance and win rates.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of estimating experience within commercial glazing, curtain wall, facade, or building envelope construction.
- Experience estimating custom glazing projects preferred.
- Strong understanding of curtain wall, storefront, window systems, and architectural glass.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications.
- Experience performing quantity take-offs and developing detailed cost estimates.
- Knowledge of fabrication, installation methods, and glazing industry standards.
- Proficiency in Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and estimating software.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously.
