Geostructural Engineer (Mid-Level)
Salary Range: $88,000 - $131,000 (commensurate with experience, education, and work location)
A leading national engineering consultancy is seeking a Geostructural Engineer to support its expanding geohazard, slope stabilization, and underground infrastructure practice. This is a mid-level position ideal for an engineer who excels in technical problem solving, field engagement, and integrated geotechnical-geostructural design.
The role offers exposure to highly complex projects across transportation, civil infrastructure, abandoned mine land remediation, and underground works. Candidates will work alongside experts in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology, rock mechanics, tunneling, and geostructural systems.
Key Responsibilities
Geostructural & Geohazard Engineering
- Perform limit-equilibrium and numerical modeling for soil and rock slopes.
- Conduct structural and kinematic analyses for rock slope stability.
- Support the design ofgeohazard mitigation systems, including:
- Soil nails, anchors, rock bolts
- Rockfall mesh, barriers, and attenuators
- Retaining walls, buttresses, and drainage systems
- Embankment stabilization and erosion/scour protection
Civil & Underground Integration
- Incorporate roadway, drainage, utilities, and site-civil criteria into stabilization and underground support designs.
- Contribute to excavation shoring, earth retention, and support-of-excavation system design.
Technical Documentation & Project Delivery
- Prepare engineering calculations, reports, plan sets, cross-sections, and technical memoranda.
- Oversee CAD/BIM deliverables and construction-ready drawings.
- Support project scheduling, budgeting, task management, and client communication.
- Assist in mentoring junior staff and coordinating multidisciplinary workflows.
Field Engineering & Construction Oversight
- Conduct field assessments, geologic mapping, and geotechnical reconnaissance.
- Provide construction-phase support on slope stabilization and geohazard mitigation projects.
- Participate in instrumentation and monitoring programs (inclinometers, piezometers, extensometers, remote sensing), including data interpretation.
Professional Engagement
- Participate in client meetings and technical committees.
- Contribute to presentations and proposal development as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Geotechnical, Geological, Civil, Mining Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 3-6+ years of relevant geotechnical, geostructural, or geohazard engineering experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred; ability to obtain licensure within 12 months required (if eligible).
- Strong technical writing, communication, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
- Willingness to travel for field assignments.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
