Position Summary
The Mechanical Project Manager oversees the planning, coordination, and execution of mechanical and MEP construction projects. This role may support a single large project or multiple concurrent projects, ensuring they are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in line with company quality standards. The position requires strong collaboration with field teams, owners, subcontractors, and engineering personnel.
Key Responsibilities
Project Leadership & Execution
- Manage full project lifecycle for mechanical or MEP construction projects.
- Develop and maintain project schedules, tracking progress and adjusting as needed.
- Oversee scope, specifications, and contract compliance.
- Utilize Lean Construction principles to drive project efficiency.
Field Coordination & Team Support
- Work closely with field staff, including foremen and craft labor, on self-performed work.
- Support strong communication channels between project stakeholders.
- Mentor junior project staff and promote team development.
- Build and maintain long-term relationships with clients and partners.
Financial Management
- Manage budgets, cost control, forecasting, and billing.
- Ensure financial performance aligns with company profitability goals.
- Review and process change orders, providing cost analysis and documentation.
Risk & Compliance
- Identify project risks and implement corrective measures when needed.
- Ensure project documentation meets internal standards and contract requirements.
- Track production, maintain daily reporting, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
- 7-10+ years of experience managing mechanical or MEP construction projects.
- Strong understanding of HVAC, mechanical systems, and process piping.
- Experience working in design‑build or integrated project delivery (IPD) environments preferred.
- Ability to plan 3-6 months ahead and manage large project workloads.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
- Familiarity with Lean, prefabrication strategies, and production tracking.
Preferred Experience
- Previous work managing multi‑million‑dollar commercial or industrial MEP projects.
- Strong contract negotiation, budgeting, and subcontractor management experience.
- Background in process piping or advanced mechanical system installations.
Work Environment
- Role may require travel or temporary onsite work depending on project location.
