Mechanical / Electrical Engineering (Senior - Associate) - Data Center

Location: Melbourne

An Australian Building Consultancy with an established presence across the east coast is seeking experienced engineering professionals to support and lead design, delivery, and technical development within Data Centers. This is a high impact role for individuals with strong technical backgrounds in electrical or mechanical building services, ideally with exposure to missioncritical environments.

This role offers the opportunity to influence the direction of a new capability, work closely with senior leadership, and engage with a diverse project portfolio spanning data centers, edge facilities, education, commercial, and infrastructure projects.

Key Responsibilities

Electrical Engineering (for Electrical applicants)

  • Lead the design and delivery of electrical systems for data centers and other critical facilities
  • Prepare and review HV/LV designs, power distribution, switch gear, UPS, generators, and redundancy systems
  • Coordinate with mechanical, sustainability, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure integrated solutions
  • Support feasibility studies, concept design, and detailed engineering documentation
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and QA guidance for junior engineers
  • Engage with clients, builders, and subcontractors throughout design and construction phases

Mechanical Engineering (for Mechanical applicants)

  • Lead mechanical design for data centers including cooling systems, chilled water, CRAH/CRAC units, and thermal management
  • Work on edge facilities, preconstruction design, and fitout works for missioncritical buildings
  • Conduct load calculations, equipment selection, and system modeling
  • Coordinate with electrical and building services teams to deliver cohesive design outcomes
  • Oversee site inspections, commissioning processes, and design reviews
  • Support development of internal delivery standards and capability building

General Responsibilities (Both Disciplines)

  • Serve as a senior technical contributor within a growing data center engineering team
  • Support bids, proposals, and client engagement for upcoming projects
  • Contribute to building a longterm critical infrastructure capability within the consultancy
  • Ensure design compliance with Australian standards and industry best practices
  • Work across a range of sectors (education, commercial, infrastructure) to maintain project diversity
  • Collaborate with interstate teams across multiple offices
