Mechanical Project Manager - Illinois

About the Role

This position is part of the mechanical division, responsible for overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and piping systems from concept through completion. The ideal candidate will be a proactive leader with a proven ability to manage client relationships, coordinate field teams, and deliver projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead mechanical trade work on construction projects, acting as the primary point of contact for clients and construction managers.
  • Manage project scope, schedule, and budget from pre-construction through closeout.
  • Interpret P&ID drawings and translate them into construction-ready layouts and ISOs.
  • Coordinate internal teams and subcontractors to ensure efficient execution.
  • Maintain strong communication with clients, architects, engineers, and subcontractors.
  • Oversee project financials including buyouts, billing, payments, and cost control.
  • Ensure compliance with design specifications, codes, and safety standards.
  • Utilize project management tools and software to track progress and documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of mechanical systems (HVAC, plumbing, process piping) throughout all project phases.
  • Supervise self-performed work and direct craft labor as needed.

Qualifications

  • 5 years of progressive trade experience plus 3 years in a mechanical project management role.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems and construction processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Project, PowerPoint).
  • Familiarity with BIM/CAD workflows and fabrication practices.
  • Experience with scheduling software (MS Project, Primavera) is a plus.
  • Prior experience working directly with owners as a Prime Contractor is preferred.
