Site Design Engineer / Project Manager
Location: Madison, WI
A well-established, employee-owned consulting engineering firm is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Project Manager to manage and lead site design projects across multiple locations in Wisconsin. This position is based in Madison, WI and offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in a growing site design practice.
This role combines hands-on project management and technical design with opportunities to mentor junior staff, support recruiting efforts, and contribute to business development with existing and new clients.
Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day design activities, including technical design, contract document production, quality control, permitting, shop drawing review, field inspections, and project closeout.
- Plan, design, manage, coordinate, and monitor all design and technical aspects of site design projects.
- Provide engineering designs and technical leadership to site design staff, including preparation of calculations, schedules, reports, cost estimates, plans, and specifications.
- Collaborate closely with internal design teams to develop site designs in accordance with client standards and specifications.
- Interpret and understand plans, sketches, and specifications, and respond to technical inquiries and complex project challenges.
- Perform work assignments within established schedules and budgets, managing projects of varying size and complexity with limited supervision.
- Mentor technical designers and drafting staff.
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of the project development process, including coordination with architectural, landscape, structural, geotechnical, and MEP disciplines during design and construction.
- Build and maintain client relationships, assist with proposal preparation, and actively support the development of new site design work.
- Support recruitment and hiring of additional site design staff as the group continues to grow.

- Flexibility and adaptability when managing multiple projects and changing client needs.
- Strong problem-solving skills, particularly in situations where documentation may be limited or non-standard.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D; experience with engineering modeling software such as HEC-HMS and HEC-RAS is preferred.
- Experience with Microsoft Office tools (including SharePoint, OneDrive, and Outlook) and document control management systems.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
- Minimum of 6+ years of experience in site design or related civil engineering projects.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in Wisconsin required.
