PV Senior Electrical Engineer (Remote or Hybrid)

A national, full-service engineering firm providing multidisciplinary design services across solar, MEP, telecom, and infrastructure projects, with licensure in all 50 states is looking to grow their renewables team with a Senior Electrical Engineer! The firm is recognized as a leading renewable energy consultancy, specializing in PV design and engineering for commercial and utility-scale applications. The team has delivered over 2,400 solar projects totaling more than 7 GW of designed capacity and has supported hundreds of utility-scale installations across the U.S. Their capabilities span the full lifecycle of solar development, including feasibility, detailed engineering, utility interconnection, permitting, and construction support. In addition to PV, they provide integrated energy solutions such as BESS and EV infrastructure, supporting hybrid renewable projects and grid resiliency initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end electrical design for C&I and utility-scale PV projects (5MW+)
- Produce complete construction document packages (concept → IFC) with full ownership of quality, accuracy, and code compliance
- Serve as design authority-making final decisions on system layout, equipment selection, and engineering approach
- Develop PV and electrical designs including:
- Single-line diagrams, MV collection systems, and interconnection design
- Conductor sizing, voltage drop, and short circuit calculations
- Protective device coordination and system risk mitigation
- Perform PVsyst modeling and detailed electrical calculations
- Prepare AutoCAD drawing sets and technical specifications
- Interface directly with clients, utilities, and AHJs; support permitting and construction phases
- Lead interconnection strategy and utility coordination
- Mentor junior engineers and support production of design deliverables
- Manage design scope within project budgets and timelines
Qualifications
- BS in Electrical Engineering + 5+ years solar PV design experience
- Proven ability to independently deliver complete, permit-ready electrical design packages
- Experience acting as engineer-of-record or design authority (issuing final deliverables)
- Strong understanding of NEC, utility requirements, and interconnection processes
- Proficiency with:
- AutoCAD
- PVsyst, ETAP (or similar tools)
- Experience with both C&I and utility-scale solar; BESS experience preferred
- Strong communication skills with ability to defend design decisions externally
