Senior Bridge Project Engineer | Colorado
We are working with a client who is seeking a Senior Bridge Project Engineer to serve as a technical engineering professional within our Colorado practice and growing bridge group. This role is ideal for a seasoned bridge engineer who excels in structural analysis and design, enjoys mentoring and guiding younger engineers, and takes pride in delivering high-quality, constructible bridge solutions.
The Senior Bridge Project Engineer will provide hands-on technical leadership for bridge planning, design, load rating, and rehabilitation projects while supporting quality assurance, proposal development, and strategic growth initiatives. This position offers the flexibility of a fully remote work environment while maintaining close collaboration with project teams and clients.
Core Responsibilities
- Serve as technical lead for bridge and structural design projects, including new bridges, rehabilitations, widenings, and repairs.
- Perform and oversee structural analysis and design in accordance with AASHTO LRFD, agency manuals, and project-specific criteria.
- Lead or support development of Structure Selection Reports (SSRs), design memoranda, and technical alternatives analyses.
- Provide QA/QC reviews of bridge design calculations, plans, specifications, and estimates prepared by others.
- Mentor and guide junior and mid-level engineers, providing technical oversight and professional development support.
- Support project managers with technical input on scope, schedule, and risk management.
- Assist with load ratings, bridge inspections (optional), and asset management-related engineering tasks as needed.
- Contribute to proposal development, including technical approaches, resumes, and work plans.
- Collaborate with clients, reviewers, and internal teams to resolve technical challenges efficiently.
- Participate in industry organizations and technical committees to maintain professional visibility and stay current with best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering; Master's in Structural Engineering preferred.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- 12+ years of progressive bridge engineering experience.
- Demonstrated experience serving as a technical lead on bridge design and/or rehabilitation projects.
- Must be physically located in Colorado, preferably in the Denver Metro area.
- Strong background in bridge analysis and design using AASHTO LRFD.
- Experience with steel and concrete bridge types.
- Proficiency with structural analysis and design software such as LEAP Bridge or similar.
- Experience preparing and reviewing PS&E packages for bridge projects.
- Familiarity with bridge load rating methodologies and tools (e.g., BrR, Virtis, or equivalent).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a remote, collaborative team environment.
Desired Skills
- Experience working with state DOTs, counties, and municipalities (CDOT, DOTI, or similar).
- Experience supporting or leading technical aspects of proposals and pursuits.
- Knowledge of construction staging, constructability, and maintenance of traffic considerations.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers and performing formal QA/QC reviews.
