Senior Civil Engineer | NYC or Princeton, NJ
A growing multidisciplinary engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its team in either Princeton, New Jersey or New York City. This position offers the opportunity to take ownership of complex transportation and civil infrastructure projects, working alongside a collaborative team of engineers and technical professionals. The successful candidate will be involved in project delivery from initial planning and design through construction support and project closeout.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and deliver civil engineering projects while maintaining established schedules, budgets, and quality standards.
- Prepare engineering reports, technical specifications, construction documents, cost estimates, and design calculations.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, agency representatives, contractors, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Develop roadway design packages, including plan, profile, and typical section development.
- Conduct field visits and construction inspections to verify compliance with project requirements, safety standards, and regulatory guidelines.
- Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
- Support project pursuits, client relationships, and business development efforts when needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline required; Master's degree is a plus.
- Professional Engineer (PE) registration preferred.
- At least five years of progressive civil engineering experience.
- Strong background in roadway and transportation design, including horizontal and vertical alignment development.
- Experience producing roadway construction drawings and contract documents.
- Working knowledge of Maintenance and Protection of Traffic (MPT) / Work Zone Traffic Control design and MUTCD standards.
- Familiarity with grading design, stormwater management, drainage systems, and erosion and sediment control practices.
- Proficiency with Bentley OpenRoads Designer, Autodesk Civil 3D, or comparable civil design software.
- Experience working on projects for agencies such as NYSDOT, NYCDOT, NYCDDC, NYCDEP, or similar public-sector clients is highly desirable.
- Strong technical drafting and document review capabilities utilizing CAD platforms and Bluebeam.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize competing assignments and successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.
