Role Summary
The Senior Project Engineer leads engineering execution for utility‑scale solar and renewable energy projects, serving as the technical authority from late‑stage development through construction. This role functions as the central technical interface between engineering, project management, construction, procurement, and external partners.
The Senior Project Engineer ensures all projects are designed, reviewed, and executed with the highest level of accuracy, constructability, and compliance-ultimately enabling projects to move efficiently from concept to commercial operation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all project-level engineering activities from late-stage development through construction and commissioning.
- Manage and review EPC engineering deliverables, ensuring alignment with contractual, regulatory, utility, and internal technical requirements.
- Support procurement by preparing technical specifications, evaluating vendor submittals, and assessing equipment packages.
- Conduct and/or review solar PV production estimates, energy‑yield modeling, and system performance assumptions.
- Review site layouts, grading plans, electrical single-line diagrams, and full design packages for quality and constructability.
- Resolve engineering and technical issues arising during construction, working closely with project management and field teams.
- Lead value engineering initiatives to optimize cost, schedule, performance, and construction sequencing.
- Participate in interconnection studies, utility coordination, and technical discussions with regulatory stakeholders and authorities having jurisdiction.
- Provide mentorship and oversight to Project Engineers and Associate engineering staff.
- Maintain accurate engineering documentation and support project closeout and turnover to operations.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in solar, renewable energy, or power infrastructure engineering.
- Strong technical proficiency in civil or electrical engineering, with the ability to coordinate across disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, review, and validate solar PV production estimates and energy models.
- Experience creating or reviewing PV project layouts; proficiency with PVsyst, Helioscope, CAD, or similar tools is a plus.
- Hands‑on experience supporting construction, commissioning, and field engineering for utility‑scale projects.
- Solid understanding of EPC processes, interconnection requirements, utility coordination, and permitting workflows.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to lead cross‑functional technical discussions.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or related). PE license preferred but not required.
