An established environmental consulting practice is seeking a Senior Staff Geologist with 3-5 years of experience to support environmental site investigation, remediation, and technical strategy development. This role is ideal for early‑career professionals who want broad project exposure, deeper technical responsibility, and close collaboration with experienced senior staff. The position includes approximately 30% fieldwork and 70% office-based technical support.
What You'll Do
- Support project managers and build the skills needed for future project leadership.
- Mentor junior staff in field methods, high‑quality data collection, and remediation best practices.
- Analyze historical operations and environmental datasets to support site strategy, regulatory decisions, and litigation-related evaluations.
- Develop investigation scopes of work and plan field programs that meet project objectives.
- Prepare budget estimates and assist with tracking project financials to maintain schedules and deliverables.
- Coordinate subcontractors (drillers, surveyors, utility locators, laboratories) to ensure efficient, compliant field operations.
- Manage large field efforts under senior guidance.
- Conduct field audits focused on data quality, site safety, and procedural compliance.
- Perform QA/QC on environmental data and technical documentation.
- Train junior staff in generating technical figures, cross sections, maps, and conceptual site model graphics.
- Prepare and review technical reports that meet internal quality standards.
- Participate in meetings with clients, regulators, and legal teams to support remediation and closure strategies.
- Conduct hands‑on sampling and fieldwork as needed (soil, soil gas, groundwater, indoor air, surface water), including borehole logging and installation of probes and monitoring wells.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, or Civil Engineering.
- 3-5 years of experience in environmental investigation or remediation.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word and Excel.
- OSHA 40‑hour HAZWOPER certification.
- Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
- Strong ethics, reliability, and attention to data quality.
- Willingness to travel and support fieldwork.
Preferred
- GIT certification.
- Experience with chlorinated solvent sites (CVOCs).
- Field experience with drilling oversight, well/probe installation, and environmental sampling.
- Ability to develop cross sections, contour maps, and conceptual site models.
