Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer (Florida/Georgia - Remote)

Job Summary:

I am seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Substation Protection & Control Engineer in Florida or Georgia to lead the design, analysis, and implementation of protection and control systems for high-voltage substations. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a strong understanding of utility standards and regulatory requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and development of protection and control (P&C) systems for transmission and distribution substations (up to 500kV).
  • Prepare and review protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and relay settings.
  • Perform short circuit, coordination, and arc flash studies using tools such as ETAP, ASPEN, or SKM.
  • Specify and select protective relays, control panels, and communication equipment.
  • Oversee relay testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Ensure compliance with NERC, IEEE, IEC, and utility-specific standards.
  • Collaborate with project managers, field engineers, and clients to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance across multidisciplinary teams.
  • Support proposal development, cost estimation, and client presentations.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering.
  • 8-10 years of experience in substation protection and control engineering.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain within 12 months.
  • Proficiency with relay programming (SEL, GE, ABB, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of SCADA, RTU, and communication protocols (DNP3, IEC 61850).
  • Experience with CAD tools (AutoCAD, MicroStation) and engineering software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
