Structural Engineer 7-Bridges
This opportunity can be based out of our Columbia, SC, Greenville, SC, Charleston, SC, or Charlotte, NC offices.
We are seeking a highly experienced Structural Engineer to lead the delivery of advanced structural analyses, designs, and final construction documents for prestressed concrete, reinforced concrete, and structural steel bridges. In this role, you will guide teams through all phases of design, leveraging the latest SCDOT and AASHTO criteria to produce safe, resilient, and cost‑effective bridge structures. Extensive experience preparing final SCDOT bridge plans and strong seismic design proficiency are essential for this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of structural models, drawings, and specifications with a focus on accuracy, constructability, and technical clarity
- Plan and design structural systems that optimize strength, stability, and construction efficiency
- Review engineering calculations and quantity takeoffs to ensure compliance with SCDOT standards
- Coordinate bridge design efforts with multidisciplinary teams to support seamless project execution
- Ensure adherence to internal standards, quality processes, and all applicable codes and regulations
- Partner with business development teams to craft competitive, technically sound proposals
- Review proposal materials for compliance with firm, industry, and regulatory requirements
- Meet with clients to understand their upcoming needs and provide expert design guidance
- Represent the firm at industry events and conferences to support visibility and client engagement
- Collaborate with clients and agency reviewers to resolve technical questions and provide project updates
- Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and training to junior engineers to support their development
- Supervise junior staff to ensure high‑quality project outcomes and technical excellence
- Perform additional duties as needed to support project and team success
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Architectural, or Structural Engineering (or related discipline)
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license
- Minimum 7 years of relevant experience
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and/or internationally as required (travel needs vary by project)
- Equivalent directly related experience may be considered in lieu of a degree
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Civil/Structural Engineering
- Registered PE in South Carolina
- Working knowledge of CSI Bridge seismic modeling and analysis
Travel Requirements
- Approximately 5%
