Survey Department Lead

The Survey Department Lead is responsible for overseeing all survey operations, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely data collection, analysis, and reporting. This role involves managing a team of surveyors and technicians, coordinating with project managers and clients, and maintaining high standards of quality, safety, and compliance with industry regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Management

    • Supervise and mentor survey staff, including field crews and office technicians.
    • Assign tasks, manage workloads, and ensure timely completion of survey projects.
    • Conduct performance reviews and support professional development.
  • Project Oversight

    • Plan and manage survey projects from initiation to completion.
    • Review and approve survey deliverables including plats, maps, and legal descriptions.
    • Ensure projects meet client specifications, deadlines, and budget constraints.
  • Technical Expertise

    • Provide guidance on survey methodologies, equipment usage, and data processing.
    • Maintain and update survey standards and procedures.
    • Troubleshoot technical issues and ensure data accuracy.
  • Collaboration & Communication

    • Coordinate with engineering, construction, and planning teams.
    • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients regarding survey matters.
    • Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Compliance & Safety

    • Ensure all survey activities comply with local, state, and federal regulations.
    • Promote and enforce safety protocols in the field and office.
    • Maintain certifications and stay current with industry best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) license required.
  • 5+ years of experience in land surveying, including leadership roles.
  • Proficiency with survey software (e.g., AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and lead a diverse team.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with GIS and drone surveying technologies.
  • Familiarity with construction staking and boundary surveys.
  • Knowledge of local land use regulations and permitting processes.
