We are seeking an experienced Traveling Superintendent to support projects throughout the Midwest. The ideal candidate brings at least 10 years of industry experience, with government project and/or healthcare construction experience strongly preferred.

Some assignments take place on secure government facilities, including military installations. To perform the duties of this role, candidates must be able to obtain site access, which requires a clean background check and a valid, current driver's license.

The Superintendent is responsible for managing daily onsite activities across all phases of construction, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and with a high level of client satisfaction. This role will lead the onsite team and coordinate regularly with home-office personnel.


Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain jobsite safety and infection control standards, including accurate completion of all required documentation. Facilitate safety meetings and toolbox talks.
  • Oversee project scheduling using look-ahead planning; conduct weekly jobsite meetings and coordinate with subcontractors and vendors.
  • Review drawings and proactively identify potential constructability issues; collaborate with the project team to develop solutions.
  • Lead weekly foreman meetings.
  • Partner with the project team to manage risk and resolve challenges.
  • Serve as the primary onsite liaison between the Project Manager, subcontractors, and the Owner's Representative.
  • Direct and supervise all onsite personnel, ensuring subcontractors comply with contract documents and quality requirements.
  • Complete field documentation such as daily reports, timesheets, punch lists, purchase orders, inspections, and permitting requirements; maintain documentation in the project management system.
  • Mentor Assistant Superintendents, Project Engineers, and field staff.
  • Manage labor staffing needs onsite, including hiring decisions for labor positions.

Required & Preferred Skills, Abilities, and Experience

  • Minimum 10 years of experience as a Superintendent for a general contractor.
  • At least 5 years of experience supervising design-build projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction or a related field preferred but not required.
  • CPR, Standard First Aid, and OSHA 30 certifications required.
  • ASHE Certification strongly preferred.
  • USACE Contractor Quality Control Management (CQM) certification strongly preferred.
  • Federal healthcare project experience strongly preferred.
  • Solid knowledge of infection control requirements.
  • Strong understanding of OSHA safety standards and consistent application of these guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and sound construction judgment.
  • Maintains accurate project documentation and minimizes punch list items.
  • Effective subcontractor coordination and management.
  • Proficient with computers, including Microsoft Office tools; experience with construction management software.
  • Familiarity with electrical, mechanical, HVAC, controls systems, fire alarms, sprinklers, and general carpentry.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Physical & Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to navigate construction sites for extended periods.
  • Ability to perform administrative tasks using a computer.
  • Ability to perform moderate physical work, including climbing, lifting up to 40 lbs., using construction tools, and ladder work.
  • Capable of communicating in person, by phone, and electronically.
  • Exposure to outdoor weather conditions (heat, cold).
  • Exposure to loud noise, vibrations, dust, odors, fumes, and limited ventilation.
  • In some healthcare project environments, potential exposure to infectious diseases.
  • Work may occur in confined or restricted areas.
  • Travel to multiple project sites is required.
