This role supports the accounting and financial operations of an engineering consultancy operating on billable hours. The position is responsible for managing core accounting functions, supporting project‑based billing, and providing clear financial reporting to firm leadership. The ideal candidate has experience in professional services and understands how time, utilization, and project performance impact revenue.
Responsibilities
- Manage day‑to‑day accounting operations including general ledger, journal entries, and month‑end close
- Prepare financial statements and internal management reports
- Support client billing aligned with billable hours, project phases, and engagement terms
- Track work‑in‑progress, revenue recognition, and utilization metrics
- Assist with budget preparation, forecasting, and variance analysis
- Support tax compliance, audit preparation, and regulatory filings
- Work closely with leadership to improve financial processes and reporting accuracy
- Maintain accounting systems, time‑tracking tools, and related workflows
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years of professional accounting experience, preferably within engineering, consulting, or other billable‑hour environments
- Strong knowledge of financial accounting, reporting, and general ledger management
- Experience supporting budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
- Familiarity with project‑based billing and professional services revenue recognition
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and advanced Excel skills
- CPA certification is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
- Comfortable working in a hybrid environment
