Our client is seeking an Assistant Construction Manager with a Data Center specialism to support the delivery of high‑value, technically complex projects. This opportunity is well suited to candidates coming from a general contracting background who want to deepen their exposure to large‑scale, design‑build environments.
The Role
The Assistant Construction Manager will support senior project leadership in the planning, coordination, and execution of data center construction projects. The position is hands‑on, requiring close interaction with subcontractors, design teams, and internal project controls functions.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supporting day‑to‑day construction oversight on active data center projects
- Assisting with project planning, sequencing, and short‑term look‑ahead scheduling
- Supporting cost development activities, including forecasting and budget tracking
- Assisting with the review, preparation, and management of change orders
- Supporting subcontract procurement, administration, and performance management
- Participating in RFP preparation, bid evaluation, and award recommendations
- Coordinating with design teams in a design‑build delivery environment
- Supporting quality, safety, and schedule objectives throughout construction
Required Experience & Skills
- 4-7 years of construction management experience within a general contracting environment
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, means and methods, and field operations
- Experience supporting cost control, scheduling, and contract administration activities
- Exposure to subcontract negotiation, RFPs, and competitive bid processes
- Experience working on design‑build construction projects
- Strong coordination and communication skills across multiple project stakeholders
Preferred Experience
- Direct experience working on or helping to deliver data center projects
- Experience supporting or leading portions of mission‑critical or technically complex builds
- Experience on fast‑paced projects with demanding safety, quality, and schedule requirements
