Building Automation Remote Programmer

Summary
Join a controls team dedicated to mission-critical environments. You'll design, program, integrate, and support Distech-based BMS for data centers with a strong emphasis on reliability, observability, and operational security. The role is remote-first with targeted site visits for commissioning, cutovers, and complex fault investigations.

Primary Duties

  • Programming & Graphics: Develop EC-Net logic, schedules, alarm strategies, graphical interfaces, and trend schemas; enforce consistent naming and tagging for portability and analytics.
  • Integration: Implement BACnet/IP and Modbus TCP/RTU integrations for chillers, pumps, CRAHs/CRACs, dry coolers, switchgear environmental points, and metering; validate point counts and polling strategies to avoid network saturation.
  • Commissioning: Write FAT/SAT scripts; execute IO checks, device discovery, and alarm testing; deliver commissioning reports with punch lists and mitigations.
  • Sequences of Operation: Engineer robust SOOs for primary/secondary CHW, plate HX, free cooling, supply/return fan control, static/DP reset, and dewpoint/enthalpy-based economizers; tune PID with stability and recovery in mind.
  • Monitoring & FDD: Build dashboards to track thermal compliance, airflow balance, and PUE trends; mine historical trends to identify drift and latent faults.
  • Reliability & Security: Implement backup/restore, role-based permissions, firmware governance, and network segmentation; maintain recovery runbooks.
  • Documentation & Change Control: Produce as-builts, point lists, device registers, and MOPs; adhere to change windows and rollback plans.
  • Collaboration: Interface with mechanical, electrical, and IT/OT teams; support incident bridges and post-incident reviews with data-backed findings.

Required Experience

  • 5+ years in BAS controls with hands-on Distech configuration and field engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of data center HVAC (redundancy schemes, hot/cold aisle containment, precise humidity/DP control).
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot both controls logic and network-level issues (latency, time sync, addressing, conflicts).
  • Comfort with reading mechanical/electrical drawings, control diagrams, and P&IDs.
  • Excellent writing for operational documents (SOO, MOPs, test plans, RCAs).

Preferred

  • Niagara/Tridium exposure; vendor-agnostic graphics and tagging schemas.
  • Experience with FDD platforms, KPI design, and BI reporting.
  • Scripting aptitude (Python/PowerShell) for data extraction and reporting.
  • Understanding of electrical infrastructure interfaces relevant to environmental monitoring.

Logistics

  • Remote role with ~10-20% travel.
  • Participation in scheduled on-call for major events and planned cutovers.

What We Offer

  • The chance to engineer at scale with real impact on uptime and efficiency.
  • A supportive team, modern tooling, and a clear path to influence standards and architecture.
