Chief Estimator
We are seeking a highly experienced and detail-oriented Chief Estimator to lead our estimating department for complex electrical infrastructure projects, including substations, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and transmission and distribution (T&D). This leadership role is critical to the success of our preconstruction efforts and will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of cost estimation, bid strategy, and proposal development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the estimating team in preparing accurate and competitive bids for substation, BESS, and T&D projects
- Review project specifications, drawings, and technical documents to develop comprehensive cost estimates
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and procurement teams to ensure alignment between estimates and execution plans
- Develop and maintain unit pricing databases, historical cost data, and vendor/subcontractor relationships
- Evaluate and mitigate risks in project scope, schedule, and pricing
- Oversee the preparation of bid packages, proposals, and presentations for clients
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client negotiations
- Ensure estimates comply with industry standards, safety requirements, and company policies
- Provide mentorship and training to junior estimators and support staff
- Track market trends, labor rates, and material costs to ensure competitive and accurate pricing
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in electrical construction estimating, with a strong focus on substation, BESS, and T&D projects
- Proven leadership experience in managing estimating teams and large-scale bids
- Deep understanding of electrical systems, utility standards, and construction practices
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Accubid, McCormick, or similar) and Microsoft Excel
- Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and specifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field preferred (or equivalent field experience)
