Construction Manager

A leading engineering and program management firm is seeking an experienced Construction Manager to join its growing team in Richmond. The company specializes in civil and structural engineering, construction management, project controls, and technology services for transportation, building, and infrastructure projects.

Position Summary

The Construction Manager will oversee highway construction and inspection activities across all phases of projects, ensuring compliance with plans and specifications and delivering a safe, high-quality transportation system. This role requires progressive experience managing complex projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned elements of construction projects, ensuring contractor compliance with plans and contract documents.
  • Oversee project personnel, inspections, materials quality control and assurance testing, documentation, budgets, schedules, and contract administration.
  • Analyze and interpret project plans, specifications, and contract language for constructability.
  • Identify design errors and assess impacts for both client and contractor.
  • Review project documentation for compliance and direct corrections as needed.
  • Recommend partial and final contractor payments.
  • Monitor budgets and schedules, recommending adjustments as necessary.
  • Supervise and review work products of project staff for compliance.
  • Conduct pre-construction conferences, utility coordination meetings, and progress meetings.
  • Prepare and review work orders, detailed construction estimates, and Time Impact Analysis.
  • Collaborate with design, materials, environmental, traffic engineering, right-of-way, and other stakeholders to meet contract requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years of experience managing highway construction projects.
  • Strong knowledge of roadway, structure, traffic engineering, construction methods, specifications, and contracts.
  • Familiarity with state transportation standards, specifications, and manuals.
  • Proficiency in survey, nuclear density, and materials testing equipment.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office and construction management software.
  • Ability to conduct constructability reviews, cost and schedule analysis, and supervise work groups.
  • Excellent technical writing and time management skills.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Certified Construction Manager (CCM) credential
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or related field
