Data Center Engineer - Irvine, CA (Hybrid)

Full-Time | Data Center & Technical Facilities

A leading, technology‑driven organization with a rapidly growing presence in Irvine is seeking an experienced Data Center Engineer (Mechanical or Electrical) to support mission‑critical infrastructure across a high‑performance, globally connected technical environment.

Our company recently made a significant long‑term investment in Irvine's technology landscape, acquiring over 42 acres of land for the development of large-scale, next-generation data and technical facilities to support expanding compute needs. This includes plans for a major data processing hub exceeding 500,000 square feet, representing one of the area's most substantial commercial technology developments in recent years.
These investments underscore our commitment to operational excellence, infrastructure resiliency, and strategic growth in the region.

We are now adding a deeply skilled Data Center Engineer to this high‑impact team.

About the Role

This position offers a rare blend of hands-on operations, systems design work, project leadership, and technical ownership within a fast‑paced and highly supportive engineering culture. You will play a critical role in maintaining availability, shaping infrastructure upgrades, and influencing the future design of mission‑critical systems.

The ideal candidate brings 8+ years of experience in critical facilities design and operations, preferably in data centers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead or support the design of data center modifications, including cooling system upgrades, electrical distribution changes, and BMS integrations.
  • Drive whitespace buildout planning, including power, cooling, and space capacity management.
  • Oversee vendors and contractors, ensuring high‑quality execution across all phases of work.
  • Perform detailed cooling calculations, power analysis (single & 3‑phase), and equipment loading models.
  • Interpret and utilize engineering documentation such as single-line diagrams, P&IDs, SOPs, SOOs, and technical specifications.
  • Operate and maintain modern data center infrastructure, including cooling plants, electrical systems, security platforms, and building management systems.
  • Manage CMMS-driven maintenance programs, outage coordination, and LOTO/ECP procedures.
  • Extract and analyze BMS data to diagnose performance issues and optimize system behavior.
  • Serve as an on‑call responder for critical after-hours events.
  • Ensure compliance with MEP standards, OSHA regulations, NFPA 70e, and safe work practices.

Technical Requirements

Strong Working Knowledge Of:

  • Electrical distribution systems
  • UPS systems
  • Diesel generator plants
  • DX and centrifugal cooling systems
  • Evaporative towers, pumps, hydronics
  • AHUs and advanced airflow systems
  • BMS platforms (ALC a plus), modbus/bacnet/snmp
  • Motor controls, VFDs, valves, sensors, and water treatment
  • Fire detection & suppression systems

Preferred Additional Skills:

  • Python or similar scripting languages
  • Controls programming (BMS, PLC, or automation platforms)
  • Networking fundamentals (switches, routers, TCP/IP, cabling)
  • Experience developing reliability-centered or condition-based maintenance programs

Why This Opportunity Stands Out

  • Massive long-term infrastructure investment: The company has acquired a 42-acre development site in Irvine, marking one of the largest commercial land deals since 2020. The site is being positioned for major data and compute expansions, including a planned 500,000+ sq. ft. data processing hub.
  • Cutting-edge technical environment: The engineering team operates and designs infrastructure supporting high-demand, high-availability computational workloads.
  • High autonomy + high support: You'll enjoy independence in daily technical decisions while benefiting from a deeply supportive engineering leadership culture.
  • Hybrid work flexibility combined with hands-on engineering impact.

Who Thrives Here

Engineers who love a mix of design, troubleshooting, and operations, who enjoy having a direct hand in the physical and technical evolution of a modern data center environment, and who value a quietly excellent, engineering‑first company culture.
