Position Summary

The Director of NERC/FERC Compliance is a senior leader within the consulting practice, responsible for delivering high-quality regulatory and reliability compliance advisory services to clients in the electric utility, transmission, generation, and energy storage sectors. This role requires deep expertise in NERC Reliability Standards, FERC regulations, and regional enforcement practices, combined with the ability to guide clients through audits, mitigation strategies, and proactive compliance program development.

The Director will also play a key role in business development, thought leadership, and mentoring junior consultants to expand the firm's regulatory consulting practice.

Key Responsibilities

Client Advisory & Delivery

  • Provide expert guidance to clients on NERC/FERC compliance obligations, including development, implementation, and improvement of compliance programs.
  • Lead and support client engagements related to audits, self-certifications, investigations, mitigation plans, and enforcement actions.
  • Advise clients on standards such as CIP, PRC, BAL, VAR, TPL, MOD, and FAC, tailoring solutions to their operational environments.
  • Conduct compliance risk assessments, program maturity evaluations, and mock audits for clients.

Regulatory Engagement

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on evolving NERC/FERC regulations and Regional Entity enforcement trends.
  • Interpret and communicate regulatory changes to clients, identifying business and operational impacts.
  • Represent clients in regulatory proceedings, meetings, or mediations as required.

Practice Leadership & Growth

  • Develop and expand service offerings in NERC/FERC compliance, cybersecurity (CIP), and grid reliability advisory.
  • Lead proposal development, client presentations, and thought-leadership efforts (white papers, webinars, industry conferences).
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships to drive repeat business and long-term partnerships.
  • Interface with teams in Enerzinx's offices across the world.

Team Development

  • Mentor and develop junior consultants and analysts, providing training and project oversight.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence, collaboration, and client-focused delivery.
  • Share knowledge across the practice to strengthen overall consulting capabilities.

Qualifications

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Power Systems, Business, or related field required.
    • Advanced degree (JD, MBA, MS in Engineering/Power Systems) preferred.
  • Experience:
    • 10+ years of experience in NERC/FERC compliance, reliability standards, or regulatory advisory.
    • At least 5+ years in a leadership or consulting role managing client engagements.
    • Experience with compliance programs in utilities, ISO/RTOs, independent power producers, or large-scale renewable/BESS projects.
  • Skills:
    • Expert-level knowledge of NERC standards and FERC regulations.
    • Proven ability to interpret, apply, and advise on compliance obligations in real-world operational settings.
    • Strong business development and client relationship skills.
    • Excellent communication, presentation, and negotiation abilities.
    • Ability to manage multiple client engagements simultaneously.
