General Manager

Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and results-driven General Manager to lead and grow our Building Automation business unit. This senior leadership role is responsible for overall business performance, including operations, financial results, project delivery, service growth, and customer satisfaction.

The ideal candidate brings a strong combination of industry expertise in building automation or HVAC controls, along with proven leadership experience managing teams, driving revenue growth, and executing strategic initiatives.


Key Responsibilities

Business & Financial Leadership

  • Own full P&L responsibility for the BAS business unit, including revenue, margin, and profitability targets
  • Develop and execute annual business plans, budgets, and growth strategies
  • Monitor financial performance, forecast results, and implement corrective actions as needed
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and market expansion initiatives

Operations & Project Delivery

  • Oversee all operations, including project execution, service delivery, and technical functions
  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to quality standards
  • Drive operational efficiency, resource planning, and process improvement initiatives
  • Establish and maintain KPIs for project performance, service delivery, and customer satisfaction

Service & Lifecycle Growth

  • Lead the development and expansion of service offerings (maintenance, analytics, optimization)
  • Drive recurring revenue growth through service contracts and long-term customer relationships
  • Promote a proactive, solutions-focused service culture

Team Leadership & Development

  • Build, lead, and develop a high-performing team across project management, engineering, programming, and service
  • Mentor senior staff and establish succession planning for key roles
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement
  • Support recruitment and retention of top technical talent

Sales & Customer Engagement

  • Partner with sales teams to drive pipeline growth and secure key projects
  • Engage with strategic clients, consultants, and contractors to build long-term relationships
  • Support major bids, proposals, and contract negotiations
  • Act as executive sponsor for key accounts

Technical & Industry Leadership

  • Maintain a strong understanding of BAS technologies, smart building trends, and market developments
  • Support technical strategy, platform standardization, and innovation initiatives
  • Ensure alignment between engineering standards, programming practices, and field execution

Quality, Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure adherence to company safety programs, industry standards, and regulatory requirements
  • Drive a culture of quality across all project and service activities
  • Manage risk across projects, contracts, and operations

Qualifications

Required

  • 10+ years of experience in building automation, HVAC controls, or related industry
  • 5+ years in a senior leadership or management role (operations, business unit, or regional leadership)
  • Proven experience with P&L management and delivering financial results
  • Strong understanding of BAS project lifecycle (design, programming, commissioning, service)
  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams and scale operations
  • Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking skills

Preferred

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field
  • MBA or advanced leadership training (preferred but not required)
  • Experience with major BAS platforms (Niagara, Siemens, Schneider, JCI, etc.)
  • Background in both project delivery and service business models
  • Experience managing multi-million-dollar revenue portfolios
