Mechanical Engineer - Critical Infrastructure

Compensation: $120,000-$160,000 base salary, depending on experience
Our client is a leading engineering and technology firm specializing in cyber-physical solutions for mission-critical facilities, secure environments, and complex infrastructure. As they continue to expand across the U.S. and internationally, they are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join their Critical Infrastructure Solutions (CIS) team in Caroline County, VA.
This role offers the opportunity to work on high-security, high-performance projects, contributing to the design, build, and commissioning of advanced mechanical systems that support resilient and intelligent infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert in mechanical and plumbing systems including HVAC, pumping, industrial equipment, and related infrastructure.
- Perform site surveys, system evaluations, equipment selection, and layout design for proposals and contract execution.
- Develop sustainable, high-performance designs for air and hydronic distribution systems, central plants, and building management systems.
- Produce construction drawings and specifications aligned with contract requirements, codes, and industry standards.
- Address design, fabrication, construction, and commissioning issues throughout the project lifecycle.
- Create system sequences of operation, compliance matrices, and technical documentation.
- Participate in Pre-Installation Testing and Checkout (PITCO), system programming, and integration testing.
- Develop project scope, schedule, budget, and coordinate across disciplines.
- Support construction, startup, and commissioning activities.
- Perform quality control reviews and contribute to product evaluations and recommendations.
- Travel domestically and internationally for short-term assignments as required.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and engineering.
- Ability to obtain federal government clearance.
- Strong knowledge of ASHRAE standards and SMACNA technical manuals.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Experience with data centers, government facilities, or other mission-critical infrastructure.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Trane TRACE and/or Carrier HAP.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and BIM workflows.
- LEED accreditation, CEM, CLEP, or DBIA certification.
