Senior Mechanical Engineer - Mission Critical Systems

Overview:
A leading design-build firm is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join its mission-critical engineering team in McLean, VA. This role is ideal for a technically driven professional with experience designing and delivering complex mechanical and electromechanical systems for high-performance environments such as data centers, secure government facilities, and advanced industrial infrastructure. The position offers the opportunity to lead full lifecycle engineering efforts-from concept and feasibility through fabrication, installation, and commissioning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Research, develop, and design mechanical and electromechanical systems, including HVAC, thermal systems, and power-using equipment
  • Lead design and coordination of systems such as electric generators, turbines, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment, robotics, and industrial production machinery
  • Analyze customer specifications, design proposals, and technical data to determine feasibility and application
  • Oversee fabrication, installation, and testing of systems to ensure compliance with engineering standards and client requirements
  • Develop CAD/CAM models and alternative design solutions using AutoCAD, Revit, and other tools
  • Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to improve performance and reliability
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and serve as a technical lead on multidisciplinary projects
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to internal standards and process improvements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • 10+ years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in mission-critical or industrial environments
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and energy modeling tools
  • Strong knowledge of ASHRAE, IMC, NFPA, and other relevant codes and standards
  • Experience with electromechanical systems, controls, and thermal/hydraulic design
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills
