The Roadway Monitor plays a critical role in overseeing contractor operations, ensuring roadway maintenance and construction activities align with contract specifications, and supporting field operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor contractor performance in roadway maintenance, construction, traffic control, and emergency response.
  • Ensure compliance with contract requirements and applicable manuals.
  • Prepare and review documentation including daily logs, pay estimates, compliance reports, and safety evaluations.
  • Support emergency operations such as storm cleanup, accident response, and snow/ice removal.
  • Communicate professionally with contractors, the public, and utility companies.
  • Provide on-site guidance, participate in training, and assist with project data and reporting.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in roadway monitoring or transportation-related contracts preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of roadway maintenance, construction practices, and inspection standards.
  • Familiarity with highway maintenance specifications, work zone safety, traffic control, and erosion/sediment control.
  • Experience with contract compliance and daily reporting.
  • Understanding of state and agency policies related to maintenance contracts.
  • Effective communication skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • VDOT Intermediate Work Zone Traffic Control certification preferred.
  • Physical ability to work outdoors in various conditions and perform field-related tasks.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
