About the Client
Our client is a prominent regional maritime industry organisation representing key stakeholders across the shipping and maritime ecosystem. The organisation plays a pivotal role in shaping policy positions, coordinating industry perspectives, and strengthening collaboration across multiple national and international stakeholders.
Operating from a Singapore-based Secretariat, the organisation now seeks a new Secretary General to lead its strategic, commercial, and industry engagement efforts.
The Role
The Secretary General serves as the organisation's chief executive leader, responsible for driving strategic direction, managing the Secretariat, and representing the industry's collective interests at senior forums across Asia and globally.
This role blends commercial leadership, policy advocacy, international representation, and stakeholder diplomacy, and is suited for an experienced maritime executive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the organisation and its Secretariat.
- Represent member interests at international conferences, regulatory forums, and industry dialogues.
- Engage with governments, maritime administrations, global shipping bodies, and regulatory organisations.
- Lead and oversee industry committees covering areas such as economics, safety, sustainability, and regulatory matters.
- Strengthen the organisation's visibility, influence, partnerships, and commercial impact.
- Manage Secretariat operations, governance processes, budgets, planning cycles, and organisational development.
- Facilitate collaboration and alignment across diverse stakeholder groups and national associations.
- Oversee the organisation's events, conferences, and strategic initiatives.
Key Requirements
- 15+ years' senior experience in commercial maritime, shipping policy, regulatory affairs, liner/tramp operations, classification, or maritime economics.
- Demonstrated capability to engage with high-level regulatory and international maritime bodies.
- Strong understanding of Asia's shipping markets, regulatory landscape, and commercial drivers.
- Excellent communication, diplomacy, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience leading committees, working groups, or multi-country industry platforms.
- Prior executive leadership in maritime organisations strongly preferred.
- Based in Singapore or willing to relocate.
