About the Opportunity
A leading North American energy infrastructure developer, owner, and operator is seeking a Senior Project Manager - Power Generation to oversee the execution of large-scale power generation projects. This organization develops, acquires, and operates conventional and renewable energy assets, transmission infrastructure, energy storage systems, and other emerging energy technologies throughout North America.
This position will lead the execution of gas-fired generation and hybrid energy projects, including co-located energy storage and supporting infrastructure, from late-stage development through construction, commissioning, and commercial operation. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, development, legal, operations, finance, and external project stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Project Execution & Leadership
- Lead project execution from final development stages through commercial operation.
- Manage project budgets, schedules, execution plans, and risk mitigation strategies.
- Coordinate with engineering teams on design deliverables and technical requirements.
- Support permitting, regulatory, and commercial project activities.
- Facilitate project meetings and provide performance reporting to leadership.
Procurement & Contract Management
- Manage procurement for engineering, construction, and equipment contracts.
- Lead RFP processes, bid evaluations, and contract negotiations.
- Oversee EPC, EPCM, and alternative project delivery agreements.
- Administer contracts, change orders, and contractor performance requirements.
- Collaborate with legal teams on commercial terms and risk allocation.
Construction Management
- Oversee field construction activities, contractor coordination, safety, and scheduling.
- Resolve construction and engineering issues during project execution.
- Ensure quality assurance, quality control, inspections, and project documentation requirements are met.
Commissioning & Startup
- Lead commissioning planning and startup activities.
- Coordinate testing, system turnover, and project closeout.
- Partner with operations teams to ensure a smooth transition into commercial service.
Risk, Compliance & Safety
- Promote and maintain a strong safety culture.
- Identify and mitigate technical, schedule, and commercial risks.
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, permitting, and interconnection requirements.
Stakeholder Management
- Serve as the primary execution point of contact for project stakeholders.
- Coordinate activities with development, engineering, finance, legal, and operations teams.
- Provide leadership updates, variance reporting, and strategic recommendations.
- Interface with lenders, regulatory agencies, third-party engineers, and commercial partners.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- 10+ years of experience managing utility-scale power generation or energy infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated experience leading projects from Notice to Proceed (NTP) through Commercial Operation Date (COD).
- Hands-on experience with procurement, contracting, construction, commissioning, and startup activities.
- Experience managing EPC contractors, subcontractors, and major equipment suppliers.
- Strong understanding of power plant systems, construction sequencing, and project execution.
- Excellent leadership, communication, negotiation, and organizational skills.
Desired Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or PMP certification.
- Knowledge of permitting, interconnection, and industry compliance requirements.
- Experience supporting project financing activities and third-party engineering reviews.
- Familiarity with utility-scale gas-fired generation, energy storage, and hybrid energy projects.
