UPW Process Engineer

Key Responsibilities

System Design & Optimization

  • Design, implement, and optimize UPW systems to meet strict water quality standards.
  • Apply technologies including reverse osmosis (RO), deionization (DI), filtration, UV oxidation, and related treatment processes.
  • Evaluate system performance and recommend enhancements to improve efficiency and reliability.

Operations & Maintenance

  • Oversee daily operation of UPW systems to ensure consistent performance.
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance activities and troubleshoot system issues.
  • Implement corrective actions to minimize downtime and maintain operational continuity.

Quality Assurance

  • Monitor critical water quality parameters, including resistivity, total organic carbon (TOC), particulate levels, and microbiological indicators.
  • Ensure compliance with internal quality standards and applicable industry requirements.
  • Maintain and improve process control strategies to support water quality objectives.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze operational and performance data to identify trends, risks, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop reports and documentation related to system performance and compliance activities.
  • Present findings and recommendations to internal stakeholders.

Project Management

  • Lead or support projects involving UPW system upgrades, expansions, and capital improvements.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, vendors, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
  • Ensure successful project execution while maintaining operational requirements.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with applicable environmental, safety, and industry regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain documentation required for audits, inspections, and regulatory reporting.

Continuous Improvement

  • Stay informed on advances in UPW technologies and industry best practices.
  • Recommend process improvements, equipment upgrades, and cost-saving initiatives.
  • Drive reliability, sustainability, and operational excellence initiatives.

Team Collaboration

  • Partner with engineering, operations, maintenance, and quality teams across multiple facilities.
  • Provide technical guidance, training, and support to colleagues as needed.
  • Ensure UPW systems effectively support overall manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Advanced degree preferred but not required.

Experience

  • 3-5 years of experience operating and maintaining ultra-pure water systems in a manufacturing, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, specialty chemical, or similarly regulated environment.
  • Strong knowledge of water treatment technologies, including RO, DI, UV oxidation, and ultrafiltration.
  • Experience with water quality monitoring, instrumentation, and process control systems.

Skills

  • Proficiency with process monitoring and control software.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.

Preferred Certifications

  • Industry-recognized certifications in water treatment (such as CWT) or related fields are considered beneficial but are not required.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

  • May require occasional travel to manufacturing or processing facilities (up to approximately 15%).
  • Must be able to work in environments requiring strict cleanliness, safety, and contamination-control procedures.
  • Position may involve standing for extended periods, working around high-pressure equipment, and handling treatment chemicals in accordance with established safety procedures.
