Overview
We are working with a rapidly scaling platform focused on developing and delivering high-quality projects across the nature-based solutions and environmental markets space in Southeast Asia.
They are looking to appoint a Country General Manager in Indonesia to take full ownership of in-country operations, partnerships, and commercial activity, acting as the senior representative and driving growth on the ground.
This is a pivotal leadership role with a high degree of autonomy, reporting directly into the founders and working closely with an international executive team.
The Role
You will be responsible for establishing and scaling the Indonesia platform across operations, partnerships, and project delivery.
This role sits at the intersection of commercial leadership, stakeholder engagement, and operational execution, requiring someone who can operate both strategically and hands-on.
Key areas of responsibility include:
Country Leadership & Strategy
- Act as the senior representative for the business in Indonesia across all functions
- Serve as the primary decision-maker for in-country activity, including commercial and operational direction
- Advise senior leadership on market strategy, regulatory considerations, and growth opportunities
- Build the organisation's reputation and presence within the local ecosystem
Operations & Entity Management
- Take ownership of the local entity, including governance, compliance, HR, and administration
- Oversee budgets, financial tracking, and operational delivery
- Manage relationships with external advisors (legal, payroll, tax, etc.)
- Ensure all local regulatory and corporate requirements are met
Partnerships & Ecosystem Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships across government, NGOs, landowners, and private sector stakeholders
- Navigate complex regulatory frameworks and stakeholder landscapes
- Identify and secure partnerships to support project development and delivery
Project Origination & Delivery
- Lead the origination and structuring of new opportunities from early-stage engagement through to execution
- Bridge on-the-ground realities with technical and commercial teams to ensure viable project design
- Oversee the full lifecycle of projects, from concept through to delivery
Commercial Structuring
- Support the negotiation and execution of agreements with partners and landholders
- Shape commercial models, deal structures, and revenue frameworks
- Work closely with legal teams to ensure compliant and scalable agreements
Team Build-Out
- Build, lead, and develop a high-performing local team
- Define hiring needs and establish a strong local talent pipeline
- Create a culture of ownership, accountability, and execution
Requirements
- Extensive experience working in Indonesia, ideally within environmental, forestry, carbon, or adjacent sectors
- Strong understanding of the Indonesian regulatory and stakeholder landscape
- Proven track record leading in-country operations or business units
- Experience originating or delivering projects involving land, communities, or environmental assets
- Established network across government bodies, NGOs, and/or industry participants
- Fluency in Bahasa Indonesia and English
- Ability to operate commercially while navigating complex, multi-stakeholder environments
