Design Lead - NYC, NY | Boston, MA | Washington, DC

Overview

We are seeking a Design Lead who can guide clients and internal teams through the planning and development of integrated AV, IT, and security solutions. This role blends technical design expertise, coordination across disciplines, and ongoing communication with stakeholders from project kickoff through delivery.


Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with business groups and end users to understand existing technology environments, identify pain points, and translate project goals into actionable design strategies.
  • Direct the creation of early‑stage system concepts, detailed design drawings, construction documentation, and equipment lists, along with developing cost estimates.
  • Prepare or update architectural layouts and incorporate system requirements into architectural backgrounds.
  • Oversee the full design lifecycle for AV, IT, and security systems, ensuring alignment across all technical disciplines.
  • Collaborate closely with discipline‑specific engineering teams to ensure coordinated, accurate deliverables.
  • Evaluate proposals generated by sales teams and issue approved submissions to clients.
  • Serve as a consistent point of communication for clients, local management, and the technical design group throughout the design process.
  • Work alongside the Program Manager and project delivery teams to confirm that installed systems function as intended.
  • Stay informed on emerging products, industry developments, and evolving best practices.
  • Share lessons learned with both technical and sales staff to improve workflows and support future engagements.

Reporting Structure

This position reports directly to the Executive Vice President.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Strong grasp of space planning, workplace technology applications, and collaborative environments.
  • Prior experience in consulting, architecture, or a related design‑driven role is beneficial.
  • Minimum of five years working in the low‑voltage industry.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and spoken formats.
  • Highly organized, dependable, proactive, and able to manage time effectively.
  • Strong customer‑facing abilities and a professional presence.
  • Comfortable managing multiple concurrent tasks and interacting with diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to structure, plan, and execute work independently.
  • Self‑motivated, able to take initiative, and capable of managing daily priorities without oversight
