Overview

We are seeking an experienced Field Engineer with a strong background in Building Automation Systems (BAS) to support deployment, commissioning, and troubleshooting activities across large‑scale data center projects. This role requires extensive travel-up to 75%-to client sites across the U.S. and occasionally internationally.

As a Field Engineer, you will play a key role in installing and configuring building automation hardware, programming controls, integrating systems, and supporting project teams to ensure mission‑critical data center environments operate reliably and efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on‑site commissioning, functional testing, and validation of BAS across data center campuses.
  • Execute line programming, system configuration, and point-to-point verification on major BAS platforms.
  • Interpret and implement sequences of operation (SOO) for critical mechanical systems including CRAC/CRAH units, chillers, cooling towers, and air‑handling equipment.
  • Install, configure, and troubleshoot controllers, sensors, actuators, and networked devices.
  • Support network integration using BACnet, Modbus, and other building automation protocols.
  • Work closely with construction teams, mechanical contractors, commissioning agents, and project managers on active job sites.
  • Review and update as‑built documentation, control drawings, and commissioning logs.
  • Perform root‑cause analysis and prevent system downtime in mission‑critical environments.
  • Participate in factory witness testing and off‑site system validation as required.
  • Adhere to data center safety, security, and compliance procedures.

Required Qualifications

  • 3+ years of hands‑on experience in Building Automation Systems, HVAC controls, or similar technical field.
  • Experience with one or more BAS platforms (Niagara N4, Trane, Siemens, Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Alerton, Distech, Schneider Electric, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of critical environment controls and mechanical system operation.
  • Proficiency with low-voltage wiring, field device installation, and hardware commissioning.
  • Ability to read mechanical drawings, control diagrams, network schematics, and sequences of operation.
  • Familiarity with IP networking, RS‑485, MSTP, and related communication protocols.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, especially under time‑critical conditions.
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 75%, including extended stays on project sites.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to pass site‑specific background checks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience working on data center projects (colocation or hyperscale).
  • Certifications in Niagara N4, OEM BAS platforms, or commissioning disciplines.
  • Experience with BMS-EPMS integration.
  • Knowledge of redundancy architectures and critical equipment failover sequences.
  • Experience with project documentation tools and commissioning software.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 40-50 lbs.
  • Comfort working on ladders, in mechanical rooms, and in active construction environments.
  • Ability to work long days during peak commissioning cycles.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Competitive salary based on experience.
  • Per diem and travel allowances.
  • Health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • Training and certification reimbursement.
  • Career development opportunities into Lead Field Engineer, Controls Programmer, or Project Engineer roles.
