Geotechnical Project Manager
We are partnered with a well-established geotechnical engineering and consulting firm with a strong reputation across Northern Virginia. With a consistent pipeline of local work and long-standing client relationships, they are looking to add a Geotechnical Project Manager to their Manassas office.
This is a key position within the team, offering a mix of technical delivery, project oversight, and client engagement across a wide variety of commercial, residential, and infrastructure projects.
The Role
You will be responsible for managing geotechnical projects from proposal through to completion, ensuring high-quality technical delivery and strong client service.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple geotechnical projects across site development, transportation, and infrastructure sectors
- Planning and overseeing subsurface exploration programs (borings, test pits, in-situ testing)
- Interpreting field and laboratory data, including soil and rock classification and engineering properties
- Preparing and reviewing geotechnical reports, including recommendations for foundations, earthwork, pavement design, and ground improvement
- Performing geotechnical analyses (settlement, bearing capacity, slope stability, earth pressures, etc.)
- Coordinating with drilling subcontractors, laboratories, and internal teams
- Providing construction-phase support, including site visits and responding to field conditions
- Acting as the primary point of contact for clients, contractors, and design teams
- Preparing proposals, scopes of work, and cost estimates
- Managing project schedules, budgets, and overall financial performance
- Mentoring junior engineers and supporting their technical development
Requirements
- BS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a closely related field
- 6+ years of geotechnical engineering experience, including project management responsibility
- Strong background in geotechnical investigations, analysis, and report writing
- Ability to interpret construction drawings and specifications
- Experience managing multiple projects, clients, and deadlines concurrently
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Valid driver's license and willingness to visit project sites as needed
- Ability to perform occasional field work and handle typical site demands
Preferred Qualifications
- EIT or PE license (or actively working towards licensure)
- Experience with local Virginia soils and regional geology
- Familiarity with VDOT standards and local jurisdiction requirements
- Experience supporting business development and client growth
