National Water Market Business Development Manager - Industrial Automation

Position Overview
We are seeking a Business Development Manager to drive growth within the water and wastewater sector on a national scale. This role is responsible for developing new client relationships, identifying strategic opportunities, and expanding market presence for automation, controls, SCADA, digital transformation, and system integration services.
The ideal candidate combines strong industry relationships with a consultative sales approach and a proven track record of generating revenue within the municipal water and wastewater sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute national growth strategies focused on water and wastewater infrastructure clients.
- Identify, pursue, and close new business opportunities across municipal utilities, engineering firms, and industrial water users.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with decision makers, project stakeholders, and industry partners.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and technical teams to develop solutions that align with client objectives.
- Support proposal development, project pursuits, and strategic account planning.
- Monitor industry trends, funding programs, capital improvement plans, and competitive activity.
- Represent the company at conferences, networking events, industry associations, and client meetings.
- Deliver presentations and lead discussions with executive and technical stakeholders.
- Consistently achieve or exceed sales and revenue objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, Marketing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of business development, account management, or sales experience within the water/wastewater industry.
- Proven success developing new business and managing client relationships on a regional or national level.
- Understanding of automation, SCADA, instrumentation and controls, system integration, or engineering services is highly desirable.
- Strong presentation, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Ability to work independently while coordinating closely with technical and operational teams.
- Experience managing multiple opportunities and long sales cycles.
- Willingness to travel nationally as required.
Preferred Background
- Experience selling engineering, automation, SCADA, controls integration, or digital transformation services.
- Existing relationships with municipal utilities, consulting engineering firms, EPCs, or water authorities.
- Familiarity with capital improvement programs, treatment facilities, pump stations, and utility infrastructure projects.
- Active involvement in industry organizations such as WEF, AWWA, or related groups.
Compensation
- Competitive base salary of $180,000 to $230,000 plus performance-based bonus opportunity.
- Strong earning potential for candidates with an established industry network and proven sales history.
