Lead Substation Designer
As a Senior Substation Lead Designer, you will be responsible for developing complete and technically accurate design packages for high‑ and medium‑voltage substation projects. You will support utilities, cooperatives, and municipal clients by delivering high‑quality physical design work that aligns with project standards, engineering requirements, and industry best practices. In this senior‑level role, you will take ownership of the physical design process-translating engineering concepts into detailed construction‑ready drawings-while maintaining strong communication with clients, project engineers, and the Substation Manager.
This role involves coordinating design activities, resolving technical issues, and ensuring that every deliverable meets safety, reliability, and quality expectations. You also play a key part in guiding project workflows, clarifying design intent, and supporting multidisciplinary teams throughout project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop complete substation site plans, including grading, access, fencing, and equipment placement.
- Produce general arrangement drawings and elevation views for high‑ and medium‑voltage substations.
- Create conduit routing plans, trench details, and associated schedules.
- Prepare bus equipment cut sheets, fabrication details, and connection diagrams.
- Design substation grounding systems and associated details in accordance with utility and IEEE standards.
- Develop foundation layout drawings and structural detailing for major equipment and steel structures.
- Produce structural steel detail drawings, including sections, elevations, and fabrication notes.
- Compile bills of materials (BOMs) for all major substation components.
- Support client interactions, clarifying design needs and providing technical updates as required.
