Overview
A global provider of mission‑critical infrastructure solutions is seeking a Project Mechanical Engineer to serve as the Lead Mechanical Engineer on advanced modular and transportable building projects. This role blends hands‑on mechanical design with project ownership, coordination, and leadership across engineering, integration, and commissioning teams.
The ideal candidate has strong HVAC and mechanical systems experience, enjoys managing complex projects from concept through delivery, and brings a creative, solutions‑driven mindset to high‑reliability environments such as data centers and industrial facilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Lead Mechanical Engineer for conceptual and detailed design of mechanical systems including HVAC, cooling systems, fire suppression layouts, cable management, equipment layouts, and general arrangements.
- Lead mechanical scope across project lifecycles, from presales concept through construction and commissioning.
- Develop schematic (SD), detailed (DD), and construction (CD) design narratives.
- Perform thermal transfer calculations, including fire ratings and thermal bridge analysis.
- Conduct basic CFD analysis to support design decisions.
- Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local building codes and standards.
- Coordinate with authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) as needed.
- Review and approve mechanical product submittals.
- Manage and support third‑party integration partners and oversee the development of integration drawings.
- Produce general layout drawings for all mechanical systems.
- Specify materials and systems including ductwork, cable tray, fiber management, wireway, busway, and fire suppression components.
- Collaborate with internal teams, business partners, and vendors to select appropriate mechanical equipment and systems.
- Define mechanical project scope and provide technical support during pre‑construction and construction phases.
- Perform quality control during system integration and installation.
- Support onsite integration, commissioning, testing, and performance validation.
- Travel to project sites for reviews, audits, startups, and coordination with field engineering teams.
- Engage directly with customers to understand requirements and deliver optimized, value‑driven solutions.
- Provide creative, innovative approaches to reduce cost while maintaining quality, reliability, and maintainability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent experience).
- 4+ years of mechanical engineering experience.
- PE license preferred but not required.
- Experience with HVAC and mechanical systems in industrial, modular, or mission‑critical environments.
- Knowledge of building codes related to modular or transportable construction.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and Revit (Autodesk suite).
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings and equipment specifications.
- Proven project management and organizational skills.
- Detail‑oriented with strong leadership and problem‑solving abilities.
- Comfortable coordinating across multidisciplinary teams and external partners.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to think creatively and develop innovative engineering solutions.
